「家族」は血縁関係で結ばれる関係だけではない。例えば、人類学者のジャネット・カーステンが考える「家族」は共同生活・共食によって獲得できる関係性も含めている。

2018年の冬、ゆづきは私が住んでいたシェアハウスに生まれてきた。同じ屋根の下で暮らし、子育ての大変さも愛おしさも身近で実感したが、他人以上家族未満の距離感は心地よかった。子どもと一緒に暮らす経験から生まれた関係性をドキュメントするなか、私たちの子育てに対する考え方も徐々に変化していった。

Family Share

Our definition of ‘family’ is not limited to consanguinity. For example, ‘family’ can include relationships that are acquired through communal living and eating based on the studies of anthropologist Janet Carsten.

In winter 2018, Yuzuki was born to the house share I was living in, as the baby boy of my housemates, a married couple. Sharing everyday life together, I had a first-hand experience at seeing both the hardships and the love of raising a child, and the distance between us that we can perhaps call is ‘more than strangers but less than family’, was comfortable and satisfying. Our views on parenting gradually changed too as I documented the relationships that emerged from the experience of living with a child.
