いつの間にか聞き慣れるようになった「不要不急」という言葉は、第二次世界大戦時にもよく使われていた。しかし、当時は国策旅行を正当化させるために聖地巡礼の旅行は認められ、日本神話のゆかりの地として宮崎や奈良が観光地として注目されるようになった。「不要不急の旅行」と家族の始まりを表象する「新婚旅行」を起点に、家族と国家の関係性を探っていく。

Honeymoon to Miyazaki

Since the pandemic started, ‘fuyō fukyū (non-essential and non-urgent outings)’ has became a common phrase that is used in everyday life in Japan. This phrase was also frequently used during the Second World War, but at the time, pilgrimage trips to sacred sites in Japan were permitted, and socially acceptable under a special national policy that was implemented to promote patriotism. As places that are associated with the origins of Japanese mythology, Miyazaki and Nara quickly became popular tourist destinations. Focusing on the keywords ‘unnecessary travel’ and ‘honeymoon’—which represents the beginning of a family, this film explores the relationship between the family, the state and the gods.
