「とんど焼き」は一年の無病息災を祈るために、瀬戸内海に浮かぶ大三島で毎年行われている行事である。村の人びとは協力し合いながら、高さ約8メートル、幅約3メートルのとんどを作り、全員で空き地まで引いたあとに火を放つ。火を起こし、火を囲み、そして火を食べるーー火にまつわる人の営みからその場所の歴史、人間の根源的な習性を思索する。

The Cooked

'Tondoyaki' is an annual festival held on the island of Omishima in the Seto Inland Sea to pray for good health and happiness in the coming year. The villagers work together to build an 8m tall and 3m wide 'tondo', which they all pull to a clearing and then set alight. Making fire, gathering around the fire and 'eating fire'—this film explores the relationship between the history of a place and the fundamental habits of human beings through looking at the activities of people around fire.
